Ethereal Kitchen
This was a dark and awkwardly shaped dysfunctional kitchen that had the island blocking the flow and aging cabinets, appliances and counters, as well as an odd mix of windows and doors.
The working area of the kitchen was shifted to the other side of the island to achieve a more functional space and open up the back of the house to the beautiful gardens beyond. The lightness of the upper cabinets and the ethereal quality of the marble help to balance the black lower cabinets which ground the space. The back door doubled in size and the windows were altered to allow the maximum amount of light in, without sacrificing the storage. A sneaky pantry next to the fridge offers surprising storage and a full depth counter inside.
